Clarence & Alabama

I will confess to an avid preteen love for Christian Slater. My best friend and I would rent his films over and over and paste pictures of him on our walls. And so many of those films were painfully schlocky (Bed of Roses or Untamed Heart anyone?).
I'm so glad we never stumbled upon True Romance. Because the title would have sucked us in instantly, and it would have all been hunky dory - until it came to the most brutal ass whooping I've ever seen on film. I covered my eyes!
I adored the main characters of this. Alabama is a crazy bad ass girl. Clarence is a doll and I loved his Elvis obsession. And Tarantino wrote it. I'm convinced Tarantino was read some pretty messed up bedtime stories as a kid, but I enjoy the results.
I give this one a 7.
Suggestions?
I need to bake something amazing for a dessert auction at work tomorrow. It must be delicious (I have a reputation to maintain), not require tons of insanely expensive ingredients, and look fabulous (cause these auction things are highly influenced by appearance.) It also must not be a pie cause I suck at those.
Baking commences at 5pm eastern time. Go!

Smart as hell

There are so many usual ways of telling a story that I love when I come across something wholly new and clever and it works. Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry (and no I'm not shitting you on that title) is the story of a relationship told through an auction catalog. Every item from this couple is photographed or described, and through it you can see so much. Its smart as hell and it made me look around and wonder what someone would collect if cataloging my relationships.
I give this one a 7.5.

Crushing

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is a-DOR-able. Such a cute movie! It follows two teens around New York as they search for drunken friends and hidden concerts. It's got lots of good music (to be expected given the movie's title). Best of all, the dialogue is perfect. Funny and sweet and snarky at turns. I may officially have a teeny bit of an inappropriate Michael Cera crush.
I give it an 8.

Oink

Oh how hard it is not to order a whole herd of this porky fellows. Love these pig planters by fruitflypie.
Harrumph

The X Files: I Want to Believe movie is pretty wretchedly awful. I'm not sure why they mad eit. Its like an extra long extra boring episode of the show, and offers absolutely nothing new for fans of the series. What's the point?
I give it a 2 and I think that's rather generous.

Hungry

Eat Drink Man Woman will make you hungry. Incredibly so. It's about a chef with three grown daughters. Every Sunday the main character makes an amazingly elaborate meal. And his daughters have grown to hate the tradition.
This story follows the father and each daughter as they find their passions in life. Its very sweet. But you are warned, this one (particularly the opening credits) will likely leave you with a craving or two.
I give it a 6.
