Scheming towards spring

I really want to plan an amazing cutting garden this spring.  And I really want spring to get here already.  In fact garden-planning is usually how I cope with Februaries. 

So here's some of the pretties I'm thinking of getting for my garden:

Tiny pompom dahlias

 



 

This one called Amber Queen is kinda odd and perfect.

 

Some daisy type dahlias like this one called Pooh.

 

 

 

 

A reddish colored sunflower like this Little Becka.

 

And maybe this Peach Passion variety.

Outside

Outside the Planter Box - This time of year anything involving plants and green things is fascinating to me.

Must admit

Coneflowers are one of my favorite perennials.  Spotted these on a walk.

Spotted

Spotted these pretty pots on a walk.  Filing them away for inspiration.

Creeping

My neighbor's morning glories are creeping over the fence to brighten my yard as well.  So pretty they had to be shared.

Shapely

Even though they are so slow in ripening, I'm in love with the shape of one of my tomato varieties.  Still, I wish they'd ripen up so I can commence sauce-making.

Splurge

My favorite things to splurge on are clothes, shoes, and flowers.  Yesterday involved some stocking up on pots, seeds, and flowers.  So delighted with these colors!

Poppies

I'm a lot in love with poppies this spring (and every spring). May have to add loads more to my garden.

Thinking vertically

I love the idea of creating a vertical garden.  This one is so cool - not to mention how pretty those asparagus ferns are planted in clumps with those little grey sedums.

I'm found this picture and tons of inspiration over at Flora Grubb's blog and web shop.  I do believe that I'm hooked!

Garden plans

Sharing my garden plans with you all in the hopes that you'll share info on what you're growing this year.

- Lakota Winter Squash
- Carrot Parisienne (free gift from Bakers Creek)
- Five Color Swiss Chard (cause pretty counts and I lurve chard)
- French Breakfast Radish but I may need to get a couple of other varieties. They grow so fast that it's so possible to grow several kinds.
- Water cress
- Flamingo feather celosia I want more cutting flowers this year.
- Radish Helios
- Japanese Pickling Eggplant
- Tonda di Parigi Carrot
- Candy Mountain Foxglove



Will pick up butter lettuce seeds and snow pea seeds and pepper plants from the local guys, tomatoes from my tomato guy, and a few other odds and ends. Any suggestions for an interesting zucchini to grow? Probably should stick to tried and true but I love experimenting. Also considering another variety of eggplant and loads of poppies. Also more cut flowers. Inspire me with your garden plans please.

Moon & stars

Some summer I will grow moon and stars watermelon.  I just love their look so much.

(And I have no idea who to attribute this gorgeous photo to.  It's all over the interwebs.  If you know, point me in the right direstion please.)

2011 is definitely the year to give into that urge to plant a ridiculous amount of poppies.

Can't come soon enough

Very excited about the seeds I recently purchased - candy mountain foxgloves.  So pretty!  Srpingtime, I'm waiting on you!

Fiery

Coneflowers are one of my favorite varieties of perennials.

Orange is my favorite color.

So how do I resist this echinacea marmalade variety:

My morning glories are finally glorious.  Just in time for frost but I'll enjoy them while I can.  The rose bush is having a second go of it as well.

Even as I rip out this year's veggie garden, plans for 2011 are forming. I usually line the outer edge of my garden with nasturtiums, but next year it'll be marigolds. It'll be bright and pretty and bad bug repellant. Perfect!

Adding to the mix

The garden is stuffed full of spring bulbs...but there's always room for more, right?  I picked out the daffodils.  The boy snapped up the tropical-looking flowers.

April flowers

Made progress on a 101 listy item - 77. Have fresh flowers in the house at least once a month. Here's April's flowers for you, picked from my front yard.
