The Hobbit was a fill in the gap read for me. It seemed like something I should have read. So I dove into it and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the oh-so-serious fantasy novel that I expected. Instead it was full od asides from the author and funny details tossed in. This novel was actually a lot of fun along with adventure. One of these days, I'll work myself up to the trilogy.
I received it as a gift when I was a lot younger and couldn't conceive of reading something written in that style. I was too busy for good literature! A few months ago I lent the book out (to another state) but I've been feeling the same way...I think it's something I should have read by now.
